Stop in for our best deals of the year on winter apparel and equipment or take advantage of closeout pricing on 2013 bicycles along with increased discounts on accessories with every bike purchase.
February was a busy month for us at the shop. Ski season has continued strong into the new year and a fresh blanket of snow last night is only further pushing back the on set of spring. The trails at MacBride were groomed this morning and the 10 day forecast has us believing there will be another week or two of skiing before we can really kick off riding season. The nasty weather hasn’t kept bikes off our minds though as we have been busy gearing up many of the local team and club riders with their new bikes and parts for the year. Kevin and Oliver headed north to attend Frostbike, a trade show and open house put on by our main distributor, Quality Bicycle Products, in Bloomington Minnesota. The same weekend saw Geoff and a crew of Iowa City skiers undertake a monumental drive up to Hayward Wisconsin for an even more monumental American Birkebiner. Over 12″ of fresh snow fell the day before the race and brought down finish times for all racers by an average of 30 minutes. Great job finishing to all the braved the elements!
Now for the month in picutes!
At long last we upgraded from the 32″ tube TV that had graced the shop’s front corner since we opened the doors nearly 8 years ago. The new TV brings us the capability to stream bike races from the computer and you can be sure it will get put to good use during the Spring Classics season. We also have done some house keeping and rearranged our sports nutrition display and expanded the products we carry. Let us know if there is something you would like to see us stock, our inventory is constantly evolving to best serve our riders.
We took delivery of our 2nd and 3rd Specialized Fat Boys of the year, and our first of the Expert model (seen here) These bikes look better than we could have imagined and were well worth the wait to get them. The 17.5″ (medium) frame weighed in at a very respectable 31 lbs out of the box (with metal flat pedals). At $2600 the Fat Boy may be one of the best spec-ed for the price fatbikes on the market. Just look at that sexy carbon fat fork! The 4.6″ Specialized Ground Control tires are an amazing addition to the world of fat tires and will be perfect for stomping the Iowa snow fields.
I built up this 2014 Amira Pro for one of the Specialized-Mercy Elite Women’s Team riders. The Lululemon Team colors and graphics make this bike one of the best looking bikes I have seen in quite a while. Flashy yet understated, raw matte cabon mixed with bold subtly placed colors. Needless to say I loved it and was jealous it only comes on the Amira.
Not to be out done in the new bike department Iowa City Cycling Club rider Henning picked up his new race bike, a 2014 SWorks Venge, decked out with Roval Carbon Clinchers, new 11 speed Dura-Ace Di2 drive train, and a Quarq power meter on the carbon SWorks crank. This big German will be a dominating force in any sprint with his new ride. Watch out Andre Greipel and Marcel Kittel, Iowa City has a German sprinting champ of our own.
Last but not least is Mike’s Niner RLT, this bike is the first non mountain bike from Niner, and Mike will be one of the first guys in the state of Iowa to be on one. The RLT (Road Less Traveled) is a bike built for gravel roads, with a tweeked geometry and modified spec from a traditional cyclocross bike this rig is designed to float over miles and miles of of unpaved roads. The colors and graphics on this bike really pop and will be sure to make it stand out in a crowd. Look for Mike and some of his Goosetown-New Pi teammates on this Gent’s Ride coming up in April.
All the guys at the shop are doing it…. so it must be a good idea.
